Aims and Scope

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters (PTL) offers rapid, archival publication of original research relevant to photonics technology. PTL papers are now posted online immediately after proofs are received, providing extremely rapid publication. PTL is published in complete issues online in color twice a month and in hardcopy form in mostly black and white once every two months.

Original contributions are welcome which relate significant advances or state-of-the-art capabilities in the theory, design, fabrication, application, or performance of

-- Semiconductor optical devices; including lasers, amplifiers, light-emitting diodes, solid-state lighting, etc.
-- Optical fiber and waveguide technologies; including design and characterization, amplifiers, measurement techniques, etc.
-- Optical filters, control, and switching devices; including planar lightwave circuits, photonic integrated circuits, MEMS, liquid crystals, photonic crystals, nano-photonics, etc.
-- Free-space and fiber-optic transmission systems and subsystems; including system demonstrations, optical and electrical signal processing, modulation, detection and equalization techniques, measurement techniques, etc.
-- Optical sensors; including bio-photonics, remote sensing, fiber-optic gyroscopes, etc.
-- Other photonic technologies; including THz waves, plasmons, etc.
